Tofu cheese is a soy product that is popular with vegetarians and vegans and is rich in protein.
We recommend serving fried tofu with peanut sauce with Asian rice noodles or your favorite vegetables!
Ingredients:
400 g firm tofu (soft tofu is not suitable for this recipe)
1 ½ tbsp cornstarch
For the peanut sauce:
3 tbsp unsalted peanut butter (creamy, not crunchy and definitely unsalted, otherwise the sauce will be too salty)
4 tbsp TAMARI soy sauce
1 tbsp SRIRACHA extra hot sauce
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1-2 tbsp brown sugar (more or less to taste)
1 tsp chopped fresh ginger or ½ tsp ground ginger
1-2 tbsp water (if you want a thinner sauce)
Additional Ingredients
Chopped spring onions (optional)
1-2 tbsp crushed peanuts (optional)
Directions:
1. Cut the tofu block in half, place between two cloth or paper kitchen towels towels and place a weight on top of them (for example, a heavy pan). Leave it for about 10 minutes so that the towels absorb excess moisture. In the meantime, preheat the oven to 200 °C and line a baking sheet with baking paper.
2. Then cut the pressed tofu into 2-3 cm cubes and place in a large bowl; also add cornstarch. Use your hands to evenly coat the tofu with the starch.
3. Place the tofu in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and place in the oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the outside is browned and the inside is fully cooked.
4. While the tofu is baking, make the peanut sauce. In a small bowl or blender, combine the peanut butter, tamari, sriracha, vinegar, brown sugar, and ginger, and blend until smooth. This will be a thick sauce, so if you want a thinner sauce, add 1-2 tablespoons of water and blend.
5. Once the tofu is cooked, remove it from the oven and add it to the pan with the prepared peanut sauce. Turn up the heat and stir until the tofu is coated and the sauce is warmed through.
6. Remove from heat and serve over rice noodles or with your favorite vegetables. Delicious!
