Tempeh is a fermented soybean product originating from Indonesia.
It is a plant-based protein source that is popular with vegans and is also popular in Asian cuisine.
Try this recipe for fried marinated tempeh - you can serve tempeh prepared this way with salads, Asian-style noodles, in grain bowls, and more.
Ingredients:
1 package tempeh (200 g)
¼ cup TAMARI soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon SRIRACHA extra hot sauce
Freshly ground black pepper
Directions:
1. Cut the tempeh into cubes, place in a steamer basket and place it over a pot with 3 cm of water. Bring the water to a boil, cover, and steam the tempeh over the pot for 10 minutes. Steaming helps it soften (so it can absorb the marinade).
2. In a small bowl, whisk together the tamari, rice vinegar, maple syrup, olive oil, sriracha, and a pinch of ground pepper. Place the softened tempeh in a shallow dish and pour over the marinade (to coat evenly). Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
4. Arrange the tempeh cubes in a single layer on the baking sheet. Reserve any excess marinade for later.
5. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the tempeh cubes from the oven and brush with the remaining marinade. Bake for about 10 more minutes. Serve with a salad or grain bowls. Delicious!
